About the Event
ADHD is often seen as an issue of attention or hyperactivity, and is sometimes labelled a disability – or, at the other extreme, celebrated as a superpower. In truth, it is neither. Simply put, ADHD is a different operating system. The software analogy explains it well: if someone with ADHD spends their life assuming they’re an Android phone and trying to run Android apps, it’s no wonder they spend their whole life feeling that they are broken - but once they recognise they’re actually an Apple phone – and start using Apple apps – life becomes far less frustrating and begins to make sense.
In this session, Mary Turner Thomson will share her personal journey of being diagnosed as combined-type ADHD on her 60th birthday – a revelation that explained so much of her life, from her intensity of focus and creativity to her struggles with everyday tasks, rejection…
